Inclusive Plunge Fact Sheet

How is this Plunge Inclusive?

Yes, this Polar Plunge® for Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) is in the warm and friendly confines of an aquatic center. But this location means so much more.

First, this unique Plunge takes place in a pool designed for wheelchair-bound and/or access-challenged people. While a pool ledge is also available for a traditional leap, an optional ramp into the water will allow everyone to Go Polar in Whitewater.

Second, the actual Plunge into a body of water takes place in a controlled, comfortable environment for people with other health conditions for whom a traditional, icy plunge is not possible.

All people of all abilities can truly take part in this first-ever Inclusive Plunge. And Whitewater, a city committed to disability services and programming, provides the perfect landscape for this inaugural Inclusive Plunge.

What makes it Polar?

All other components of a Polar Plunge® event—food and drink, souvenirs, music, a welcome ceremony—take place outdoors in the elements. Our Special Olympics Wisconsin team has worked hard to make it truly feel like a Plunge atmosphere, save for the actual dip in the water.

Why is this Polar Plunge important?

Polar Plunge® is Special Olympics Wisconsin’s largest annual fundraiser. All funds raised for this unique winter tradition go directly to SOWI, helping thousands of statewide SOWI athletes train and compete at the state, national, and international level. The event also supports year-round health and wellness programs, leadership development, and Unified Champion School initiatives that enrich the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities (ID).

Even if jumping into a pool isn’t your thing, there are so many ways to help SOWI achieve its fundraising goals. Plunge, Pledge, or Support at this year’s Whitewater Polar Plunge® by donating here. Or, contribute to the cause via sponsorship or volunteerism.
